How to have a ‘GREENER’ Christmas this year

It’s that wonderful time of year again, however, like every Christmas, what tends to happen at this time is people go out and buy loads of gifts because it’s “the thing to do” which often isn’t good for your budget and can sometimes end up with stuff cluttering up your home that you never use; however there are ways we can make our traditional gift-giving eco-friendly at Christmas!

We’ve made a small list of things you could do to make your Christmas that little bit more greener and sustainable so it saves you time, money and most of all the planet…enjoy!

  1. Use less wrapping paper – Try and think about how much wrapping paper you actually need. Use recycled wrapping paper or even fabric scraps.
  2. Christmas cards – Send an e-card instead of a physical card to save on paper (and postage) and when it comes to gift tags use recycled paper or even fabric scraps to make your own gift tags.
  3. Christmas lights – If you’re going to put up Christmas lights, make sure you get LED ones that use less energy – or even go solar! LED lights are more expensive to purchase at first, but they do save money in the long run because they use less electricity.
  4. Food waste – A lot of people tend to buy too much food for Christmas dinner which ends up wasted because it goes off or gets eaten before next Christmas. So this one is simple, only cook what you need.
  5. Give gifts that are homemade or second hand instead of shop-bought – Not only will this save you money, but it’s a more sustainable option too!
  6. Choose natural Christmas decorations – Instead of buying plastic or synthetic Christmas tree decorations, go for natural items such as holly berries, cinnamon sticks or dried oranges.
  7. Recycle! Don’t throw away anything that can be reused!

By thinking about these little things, you’re not only making Christmas more sustainable – but also more affordable. So why not give it a try this year! Happy Holidays everyone.
